Pregnancy Scanning

It all comes down to ewe management and planning. Knowing pregnancy status along with who is carrying multiples allows for more targeted management (mainly feed resources). It can also be used as a marketing tool when selling ewes.

If the ewe is pregnant or open.

If she is carrying a single or multiples.

An estimated fetal age.

A pregnancy can be detected as early as 30-35 days gestation ,but ideally 45-75 days gestation. Another metric of scanning is 80-100 days after the ram is introduced.

Keep the ewes off of feed and hay the night before scanning.

Know when the ram was introduced and removed from the ewes.

Ewes that are not prepared properly (not kept off feed over night).

Scanning outside the ideal time window.

Extended joining of rams and ewes.

Over conditioned (too fat)

I will provide everything including all scanning related equipment. Optimal, the producer will need an alley way to run the sheep through but we can make any situation work.

We use the Ovi Scan 6. This unit is the cream of the crop and is global recognized as the industry standard.
